I am shout-it-from-the-rooftops excited to share this book with you. Over the last few weeks I have gotten to know Crystal Sutherland through Facebook and through her shared heart and, boy, does she have a story to tell.

 ​As a girl, Crystal was victimized by her step-father for years before telling her mother. And it would take many more years, countless mistakes, mountains of pain and distrust, and an honest searching of her soul to come to the place of healing.

Even as an adult with a husband and children, Crystal struggled with self-destructive behavior until the Holy Spirit revealed the source of her pain and tenderly walked her through the process of searching, confronting, forgiving, and healing.

She writes, "It took time for me to realize that I was not going to find the healing I needed in the food I consumed or in the material comforts I purchased. Healing was only going to happen when I fully surrendered my wounds to God."

In her book, Crystal bravely shares her story and courageously offers a hand of support to other survivors in need of this same God-given healing. Like a surgeon wielding a scalpel, she helps dissect, locate, extricate, and mend the festering wounds of childhood sexual abuse. And yet, she does it with such tenderness and compassion of a life-long friend and counselor.

Along with the seven steps to healing that make up the bulk of the book, Crystal guides the reader through Journey Essentials that include prayers, scriptures to go deeper, journaling prompts, and steps for developing a thankful heart. 

While I, myself, have never experienced childhood sexual abuse, I know and love people that have.  I also understand that, as the mother of two girls, I may one day stare sexual abuse in the face through the eyes of one of them.

​I pray, no, I plead that day will never come and that I will never have to walk these steps with them; but the truth exists that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys will be victims. ​

I hate those statistics... I really do. So I have decided that I don't want to be a powerless bystander in this battle; I want to be a warrior on the front lines standing guard and providing cover fire. I want to be available to help bandage wounds and hold out a beacon of hope through the Word of God and the power of the working of the Holy Spirit.

And Journey to Heal provides a path, a blueprint, and practical ways that we can all be prepared for battle - equipping the hurting and those that love them.
